The Sexual Assault Victim Advocate responds to victims who arrive at the hospital when the victim identifies as an assault victim (which also gives the victim a different waiting area). The advocate explains the various available options, provides support, and advocates for the client’s rights as a victim. The advocate will explain the forensic medical examination process and be present during the exam if the victim wishes.
A public notary is available by appointment only in both the Stanly and Montgomery County offices. The service is free for existing Esther House clients. If you are not an Esther House client, the notary services are $5 (cash), by appointment, and only conducted when Esther House caseload allows.
Office Numbers are:
Stanly County (Albemarle) 704-961-7502
Montgomery County (Troy) 910-586-0003
Please understand that there is one staff member in each office able to perform Public Notaries. Due to COVID-19 we are still experiencing interrupted work schedules. We will do our best to accommodate our clients. For non-clients in a time-crunch, please seek alternative notaries.
Department of Social Services (DSS) Assessments are conducted when ordered by DSS. This usually takes place after domestic violence incidents in homes/situations where children are present. The social/case worker needs our assistance to determine if the incident is a one-time incident or if there is a pattern of violent behavior in the household.
Esther House will do Assessments by appointment only. Two staff members are required to be conduct DSS Assessments; therefore, preplanning is required. An intake will need to be performed prior to the assessment; this can be done separately or in the same visit as the assessment. Please note that the intake may take approximately 60 minutes and the assessment may take anywhere from 60 – 120 minutes. You will need to take the timeframes into account when you call to schedule your appointment.
Please note that scheduling this appointment is the requirement of the individual being referred. Esther House will not initiate contact; this is your responsibility. If you call and leave a message, please ensure your phone is set up to accept voicemail. After two attempts to follow-up with you, Esther House will presume you no longer require our services and will report accordingly to the referring agency.
Intakes can be done in Stanly and Montgomery County offices.
DSS Assessments are conducted only in the Stanly County office at this time.
Office Numbers are:
Stanly County (Albemarle) 704-961-7502
Montgomery County (Troy) 910-586-0003
Esther House initiates counseling referrals for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking and their families. We are currently partnered with two counseling services; however we are always seeking new initiatives in which to best serve the needs of our clients.
When you realize that there is residual effects of past/current trauma, and you don’t know what to do… counseling may be the best “first-step” down the path to recovery. If counseling is something you may be interested in, reach out to us.

You do not have to be an existing client to receive this service, but you will need to become one. When you call, we will set up an appointment time for you to come in to one of our offices to complete an intake and the counseling referral. We will go over the other services that we offer and assign an advocate/case manager to you to ensure your needs as an Esther House client are met. Once the referral paperwork is completed, it will be sent to the appropriate provider.
